What is it with us girls and falling for rogues? The mysterious glowering rogue, the brooding, silent philosopher, the rules eschewing artsy soul and the troublesome outlaw somehow draw us to them. All the clichés and all the tripe about opposites attract and how good girls like bad guys and how everyone loves a rebel aside, can someone really explain this attraction. We know he’s not for us; we know it’s not going to last but nevertheless we knowingly plunge headfirst into the ‘romance’.
It starts with contempt and disgust and through continued acquaintance it transforms into liking and adoration and before long ardent love. How the hell does that happen? We all believe we are above the usual tricks that people do, we can recognise flattery from a mile, we are immune to affectations of all manner yet inexplicably we are fascinated by them. No amount of verbal self flagellation, criticism from others or distance of any kind can keep this attraction from manifesting itself often in disastrous and embarrassing ways.
Familiarity is supposed to breed contempt and absence is supposed to make the heart grow fonder but why don't these rules apply to these bad boy attractions?
